How It Works
ATR is ranked over a rolling window. Low ranks select low volatility, high ranks select high volatility, and middle ranks select normal volatility. Warm-up uses the normal state.
The selected length drives a recursive EMA-style center. Ribbon edges equal the center plus or minus ATR times the base multiplier and regime scale. This is a price boundary, not a statistical confidence interval. Direction turns bullish after a confirmed close above the upper edge, bearish below the lower edge, and otherwise retains its prior state.
Trading Ideas and Insights
Colors separate quiet, ordinary, and elevated ranges. A band exit can frame a direction change; movement inside stays unresolved. Gaps or thin trading can add lag and false transitions. No output is an automatic trade.
How Multiple Indicators Work Together
ATR measures range, percentile rank adds context, adaptive smoothing changes speed, and the band supplies the direction threshold. They form one engine without external data.

Beyond the stack-based trend state and 50/100 cross markers, it keeps auditable statistics on the chart it is loaded on: which average price has actually been respecting (and how reliably), how every 50/100 cross resolved, what happened after squeeze expansions and after trend-health peaks — each statistic with its sample size, and each verifiable on the chart itself, dot by dot. It is built for traders who use layered moving averages and want the chart to answer two questions the ribbon genre normally leaves to folklore: which of these lines matters here, and what have these signals actually done on this symbol?
🟦 WHAT IS A TREND RIBBON?
Moving-average ribbons are a public-domain concept: several averages of increasing length plotted together. When they are stacked in order the trend is orderly; when they compress and interleave the market is ranging; crosses of a slower pair mark regime changes. Published ribbon scripts already color stacks, count touches, score trend strength and detect squeezes.
What the genre does not do is resolve outcomes. A ribbon will mark a "golden cross" without knowing how golden crosses have actually resolved on this chart; it will call an average "support" without a record of how often that support held. This script's contribution sits one level up: measurement with discipline, and evidence you can check.
🟦 WHY THIS SCRIPT IS ORIGINAL
- A cross odds engine. Every 50/100 cross is resolved N bars later (default 10) on the loaded symbol and timeframe: did the close move in the cross's direction? The win rate is tracked and split by volume confirmation, higher-timeframe agreement, and whipsaw-cluster membership — each split with its own sample size, greyed below a minimum. To the author's knowledge no published ribbon resolves its own crosses' outcomes, let alone per filter.
- Evidence-gated chart marks. The ✓ volume mark and ⚠ counter-HTF warning print on cross chips only where the measured split beats the chart's own base rate by a configurable margin with sufficient samples. Filters that have not helped on this chart do not decorate it.
- Auditable statistics. The respect record is drawn on the chart: numbered dots mark the counted touches of the leading average (gold = held, grey = failed) and a grey ✕ marks clean pass-throughs where nothing was tested and nothing entered the record. Every number in the panel can be verified visually — no other script found does this.
- Outcomes attached to the score and the squeeze. The 0–100 health score is not just decomposed from a stated formula — the panel reports how often the primary side was still intact at three horizons after past crossings above 80, on this chart. Squeeze expansions are likewise measured N bars later (median move, direction agreement, samples).
- Recency-weighted respect ranking. Touch counting exists in published scripts; here each average's last 12 touches form a rolling record where the newest touch weighs most, and the gold halo must be earned twice over: both the raw record and the weighted recent form have to clear a threshold. Below it the panel reads LOW RESPECT — price slicing through everything is itself information.
- Readability engineered like the statistics. Six engines share one chart only because the visual rules are strict: line identities never change (white 50, amber 100, thick grey 200 — the respect halo is an underlay beneath the leader's own line, never a recolor), whipsaw crosses are de-emphasized but never deleted so the visible ▲/▼ sequence always alternates, higher-timeframe levels identify themselves with end tags instead of a legend, and every mark on the chart has exactly one meaning. Nothing decorative, nothing unexplained.
🟦 HOW IT WORKS
- Trend state: the 50/100 pair picks the side; the state reads BULL or BEAR only when at least 3 of the 4 adjacent stack pairs agree, otherwise CHOP. Fill opacity scales with alignment.
- Respect engine: every touch of every average runs through a small state machine on confirmed bars. A touch requires the prior close beyond the average, a penetration into a tolerance band (default 0.25 × ATR(14)) and a close back on the original side; consecutive contacts merge into one event. The touch HOLDS if no close crosses the far tolerance edge within the resolve window (default 5 bars). Each average keeps its last 12 resolved touches; the best recency-weighted hold rate (minimum 5 touches) leads the ranking, and the leader earns a soft gold halo under its own line only when raw record and recent form both clear the threshold (default 50%).
- Cross odds engine: as described above — confirmed bars only, fixed-horizon resolution, per-filter splits, evidence-gated chip marks.
- Health score: 0–100 from a stated formula — 40% stack alignment + 25% slope consistency + 20% price position + 15% width behavior. The panel tooltip decomposes the live score and reports the measured survival after 80-crossings at half, full and double the outcome window.
- MTF strip and HTF anchors: a small table shows the 50/100 cross state on five timeframes, and up to three higher-timeframe averages plot as stepped level lines (default: the 50/100/200 one regime up, with an optional corridor fill between the pair, tinted by where price trades). Both are read from the last completed bar of their timeframe with confirmed-bar indexing, so they can appear one higher-timeframe bar late but never rewrite. Anchors render only once their timeframe has a full length of history — young symbols never show statistically meaningless levels.
- Squeeze and expansion: ribbon width (widest minus narrowest core average, as % of price) is percentile-ranked over a lookback (default 250 bars); below the threshold percentile the ribbon is squeezed. Every expansion out of a squeeze is measured N bars later: median move, direction agreement with the ribbon state, and an "A-grade" slice (state agreed with the higher timeframe AND volume confirmed) tracked separately.
- Cluster damping: several crosses inside a short window classify as whipsaw; rapid re-crosses shrink to dimmed dots rather than full chips — de-emphasized, never deleted, so the visible ▲/▼ sequence always alternates. A cross suppressed into a cluster can still print later, once, if the market settles on its side.
All statistics are collected on confirmed bars only.

- Line identities stay fixed: white 50, amber 100, thick grey 200, fast pair in the trend color. The pair that generates the signals is always findable.
- Read the panel top-down: state, health, stack, the respected average with its raw record and recent form, cross recency, the measured win-rate splits, then width and expansion.
- A typical workflow: before treating a pullback to an average as meaningful, check that average's record — the gold halo and its numbered dots are the evidence. Before taking a cross, check whether volume or higher-timeframe agreement has historically mattered on this particular chart — the ↑ marks in the odds rows answer that. Use the MTF strip for context and the HTF corridor as the higher-timeframe decision zone.

- Chips, dots and all bookkeeping wait for bar confirmation; the live bar updates until it closes.
- Higher-timeframe reads use the last completed bar of their timeframe: repaint-safe, but up to one higher-timeframe bar late by construction.
- Statistics are computed over the loaded history and reset when the chart reloads with a different amount of history; low timeframes load fewer bars.
- Volume-based features — including the VWMA average type — require a feed that supplies volume.
- PulseWire caps a script's labels at 500, so on long intraday histories the oldest cross chips drop off the left edge; the statistics still cover the full loaded history.

- The higher-timeframe anchor levels can sit far from current price (a weekly 200 on a daily chart, for example), which widens the chart's auto-fitted price scale. Enable "Scale price chart only" in your chart settings — or switch anchors off — if you prefer a tight fit around price.

- Moving averages lag; ranging markets whipsaw the state and the crosses. The cluster logic labels that condition, it does not remove it.
- All win rates, hold rates and outcome stats are historical measurements on the loaded chart only. They change with symbol, timeframe and loaded history, are greyed below the minimum sample, and do not predict future results.
- The outcome definition is direction-only over a fixed horizon — no stops, fees, or sizing; this is not a strategy backtest.

Most ribbon-of-moving-averages tools either average the ribbon or rely on simple crossovers. This one asks a different question: is the ribbon consistently ORDERED? A cleanly stacked ribbon signals real trend conviction; a tangled, crossing one signals chop — often before any single moving average has crossed another.
█ WHAT IT DOES
Plots a live moving-average ribbon directly on the price chart (choice of 7 MA types, up to 10 MAs), plus a rank-concordance score (-100 to +100) in its own pane. Classifies the ribbon into four bands — Strong Bullish, Weak Bullish, Weak Bearish, Strong Bearish — colours the chart background accordingly, and shows a table with the current band, how long price has been in it, and historical base rates (average forward return and win rate) for each band.
█ THE THEORY BEHIND IT
Ribbon tools usually throw away information about HOW consistently the ribbon is stacked, collapsing it to an average or a single crossover event. This tool instead measures rank concordance — a public, long-established statistical concept (related to Kendall's tau) that quantifies how well two orderings agree with each other. Applied to a moving-average ribbon: compare every pair of MAs, shorter-period against longer-period, and score whether their relative ordering is consistent with a clean trend. A ribbon where every shorter MA sits above every longer one (or below, for a downtrend) scores near the extreme; a tangled, crossing ribbon averages out near zero. This is a different statistical question than "is price above its moving average" or "how efficient was the recent price path" (see the Regime Classifier for that approach) — it is specifically about internal agreement across the whole ribbon at once.
█ HOW IT IS CALCULATED
1. Build a ribbon of N moving averages (configurable type and count), with periods increasing linearly from a base period by a fixed spacing.
2. For every pair of MAs (i, j) where i has a shorter period than j: score +1 if MA > MA (bullish-consistent ordering), -1 if reversed, 0 if tied.
3. Sum all pair scores and normalise by the number of pairs compared, scaled to -100..+100.
4. Optionally EMA-smooth the raw score, which is otherwise a somewhat steppy pairwise count, for a cleaner read.
Classification occurs ONLY on confirmed bar close — the band never flips mid-bar and reverses. The MA ribbon itself plots live, exactly like any moving average on any chart; that is normal behaviour, not repainting. Only the concordance score and its band classification are held to confirmed bars.

Use it as a trend-conviction filter alongside your existing process. Strong Bullish/Bearish bands indicate a cleanly stacked ribbon — a higher-conviction environment for trend-following approaches. Weak bands, or frequent flips between Weak Bullish and Weak Bearish, indicate the ribbon is loosely ordered — more caution warranted for trend-following, and potentially a more favourable environment for mean-reversion approaches instead. Check the base-rate table's sample count before assuming any one band is systematically favourable.
Works on any asset and timeframe; ribbon size and spacing should be tuned to the timeframe you trade (a wide, long-spaced ribbon on a low timeframe will lag heavily).
█ LIMITATIONS
• This is a ribbon of moving averages — inherently lagging by construction. It confirms alignment after price has already moved, and this cannot be removed without curve-fitting.
• Near-zero or Weak readings are common in choppy, range-bound conditions and do NOT predict a breakout direction — they only describe the ribbon's current state of (dis)agreement.
• Ribbon size is a real trade-off: more MAs smooth the read but add lag from the longest included MA; fewer MAs react faster but are noisier.
• The concordance score and band update on confirmed bar close only. The ribbon MA lines themselves plot live, like any moving average — that is normal behaviour, not repainting.
• Historical base-rate stats need a meaningful sample count (check N) before being trusted, especially for less common bands.
• Four bands are a deliberate simplification of a continuous reality. Markets do not actually occupy discrete states.

This is not another moving average overlay. It is a full trend diagnostics dashboard designed to answer five questions at a glance: what is the trend, how strong is it, how long has it been running, is the ribbon compressing toward a breakout, and do higher timeframes agree.
🔹 CORE CONCEPT
Three exponential moving averages — fast (8), mid (21), and slow (55) — form a visual ribbon on the chart. When the EMAs stack in order (fast > mid > slow), the trend is bullish. When they invert, the trend is bearish. Anything else is a transitional state labeled neutral.
The ribbon is more than directional. The distance between the fastest and slowest EMA (the "spread") measures trend strength as a percentage, and the rate at which the ribbon expands or contracts reveals momentum shifts before price confirms them.
🔹 WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Most EMA ribbons stop at direction and color. This indicator adds four analytical layers that standard ribbons lack:

The indicator continuously measures ribbon width against its own moving average. When the three EMAs converge below a configurable threshold (default: 30% of average width), the ribbon turns yellow and the dashboard flags an active squeeze. Compression precedes expansion — a squeeze ending often marks the start of a directional move. Dedicated markers appear on the chart when a squeeze releases into a bullish or bearish trend.

A single number synthesizing four components, each weighted equally at 25 points:

The score is color-coded: cyan (80+), teal (60–79), orange (40–59), red (below 40).

The active chart timeframe is marked with ► in the MTF rows if it matches one of the fixed timeframes. A confluence row at the bottom counts how many timeframes are bullish versus bearish and outputs a directional bias: Strong Bull (4–5 aligned), Bull Lean (3), Neutral (mixed), Bear Lean (3 bearish), or Strong Bear (4–5 bearish).

Not all EMA crossovers carry equal weight. The indicator differentiates three tiers with distinct marker sizes and shapes:
▸ Fast × Mid (tiny triangles) — Early signal. The 8 EMA crossing the 21 EMA indicates short-term momentum shift. Frequent, noisy, best used as an alert rather than a trigger.
▸ Fast × Slow (standard triangles) — Confirmation signal. The 8 EMA crossing the 55 EMA has more significance and filters out minor pullbacks.
▸ Mid × Slow (diamonds) — Trend shift signal. The 21 EMA crossing the 55 EMA typically marks a genuine change in trend direction. This is the least frequent and most reliable crossover in the set.

Trend signal — HMA + Z-score tension
Two cleanly chosen primitives:
Hull Moving Average (HMA) — a chained-WMA construct that delivers a fast, low-lag trend baseline. The square-root final smoothing step is what makes it noticeably less laggy than EMA at the same length.
Z-score of (close − HMA) — the residual is normalised by its own rolling stdev so the tension reading is dimensionless and comparable across instruments. |Z| above the overextended threshold (default 2.0) tags the move as overextended in the Energy Dashboard.
A new trend signal fires when the configured signal cooldown has elapsed and the directional logic flips. The signal is non-repainting (confirmed on bar close).
ATR-sized stops and targets
Each signal automatically renders:
SL box — a translucent box sized at SL-ATR × multiplier (default 2.0 × ATR-200) from entry, drawn in the bear colour.
TP box — sized at SL distance × Risk:Reward ratio (default 1.0R), drawn in the bull colour.
Trailing-stop line (optional, JOAT enhancement) — when enabled and price moves more than the activation threshold (in R-multiples) in your favour, the stop ratchets behind price by Trail-ATR × multiplier. Configurable bar-by-bar trail step, optional break-even lock at activation.

Trades are evicted FIFO when the history window is exceeded, so the win rate is always a rolling read of recent performance, not lifetime stats — which is the right read for a working trader.
Two dashboards
Energy Dashboard (Bottom-Right by default) — compact 22-row read of current Z-score, trend direction, HMA value, overextension flag, ribbon width, ATR, and signal state.
RR Performance Dashboard (Top-Right by default) — 29-row institutional read of the rolling backtest stats above, plus the equity sparkline.
Both are independently positionable, sizeable, and toggle-able. The split lets you run "engine state" on one corner and "PnL state" on the other without overlap.
Trend ribbon
The HMA is rendered with an ATR-band ribbon (configurable width) whose transparency is dynamically modulated by current Z-score — the ribbon visually breathes with tension. Toggle off if you prefer a clean line.
Alerts
Alert conditions are exposed for new signals, SL hits, TP hits, trailing-stop hits, overextension events, and two win-rate threshold alerts: Win-Rate High (crossover above the configured high level) and Win-Rate Low (crossunder below the configured low level). Win-rate alerts are suppressed until a minimum sample size has been recorded, so you do not get a 100% win-rate alert from a single lucky trade.
How to read it
The script is designed to be used as a closed loop:
Take the trend-start signal as the entry. The HMA + Z-score logic is the signal; the SL/TP boxes are the geometry.
If trailing is enabled, the line will appear once unrealised PnL exceeds the activation threshold and will ratchet from there.
When the trade closes, the rolling backtest updates — watch the win-rate colour and the cumulative-R sparkline.
If win-rate trips the low alert, that is the script telling you the current regime does not suit the current settings.
The cumulative-R sparkline is the most honest single line on the dashboard — if it is climbing, the engine is doing its job; if it is grinding flat or down, it isn't, and you should re-evaluate parameters or stand aside.
Suggested settings
Defaults (HMA 50, Z 50, 2.0 R-stop, 1.0 R-target) are calibrated for 1H–4H on liquid markets. For lower timeframes drop both lengths proportionally and consider a Risk:Reward above 1.0 to offset the higher signal frequency. For daily and above, raise lengths and lower the signal cooldown.
Originality / what's reused
HMA, Z-score, and ATR-sized stops are public-domain primitives, used here as building blocks. The implementation — the Z-normalised tension reading, the R-multiple activation trailing stop with break-even lock, the colour-coded rolling-N backtest, the Unicode equity sparkline rendered inside table cells, the dual-dashboard split, and the sample-gated win-rate alerts — is JOAT-original and tuned together. No third-party code reused.
Open source
Published open-source under the default Mozilla Public License 2.0. The execution geometry, the rolling-trade tracker, the Z-modulated ribbon, and the sparkline renderer are each isolated so you can adapt any one without reading the whole file. Forks welcome with credit.
Limitations
The rolling backtest is a descriptive read of recent signal performance under the current settings — it is not a predictive metric and changing the parameters resets the read. SL / TP geometry assumes a single position per signal direction; the script is not a position manager. Trailing stop fires on confirmed bars; intra-bar movement past the trail level is registered but the close determines the outcome.

How to Use This Indicator
Step 1: Read the Ribbon Color
A deeply saturated bull color means the ribbon spread is unusually wide — momentum is strong. A muted or transitional color means the spread is near its historical average — momentum is uncertain.

A signal fires when the Fibonacci trail flips direction and confidence meets the minimum grade. The trade block appears immediately with entry, stop, and three TP levels.

Indicator Limitations
Swing detection uses ta.pivothigh() and ta.pivotlow() with a lookback offset. The Fibonacci levels are computed from swings confirmed bars after they occurred
In markets with very shallow swing structures, the Fibonacci range can be small relative to ATR, causing the trail to cluster near the current price and produce excessive flips
The 20-line ribbon increases visual complexity. Reducing the base length and step can make the ribbon more compact on busy charts
The confidence score uses volume as one factor. On timeframes or instruments where volume is not meaningful, this factor should carry less weight

Why this indicator is different
Standard momentum indicators give you one line. RSI tells you whether the market is overbought or oversold at one specific lookback period. MACD tells you whether one moving average is pulling away from another. One perspective. One answer.
The problem is that momentum does not exist at one lookback period. A 14-period RSI can be flat while a 7-period RSI is already reversing. A 21-period RSI can still be bullish while the fast momentum has already rolled over. By looking at one line you are always missing what is happening at adjacent timescales — and those are precisely where the early signals live.
Momentum Pulse works differently.
Instead of one RSI it runs twenty simultaneously, each at a different lookback period. The shortest strand captures the fastest momentum shifts. The longest strand reflects the slower, sustained trend. Together they form a ribbon — a fluid, living visualization of where momentum is coming from, where it is heading, and how much agreement exists across timescales.
The ribbon does not just show direction. It shows compression and expansion. When the strands fan out, momentum is building with conviction. When they compress, the market is coiling — and that compression often precedes the next directional move. When the fast strands lead the slow strands, the trend has energy behind it. Momentum Pulse is a twenty-strand RSI ribbon oscillator built on RSI processed through zero lag EMA smoothing. It maps momentum across twenty simultaneous lookback periods and visualizes the full structure of momentum strength, direction, compression, and divergence in a single pane.

2. Core components
2.1 RSI strands
Twenty RSI calculations run simultaneously, each at a different lookback period. The first strand uses the base length. Each subsequent strand adds the length step, spreading the ribbon from fast to slow momentum perspectives. All values are normalized to a −50 to +50 scale around a zero midline, making every strand directly comparable regardless of its period.
2.2 Zero lag EMA smoothing
Each RSI strand is smoothed using a zero lag EMA. Standard EMA smoothing introduces lag because it weights recent bars less than current price. ZLEMA compensates by incorporating the momentum of recent change before applying the average — the ribbon reacts to momentum shifts on the current bar, before the move has confirmed on price.
2.3 Fast and slow group trend detection
The ribbon is divided into two groups. The fast group uses strands one through five — the shortest lookback periods. The slow group uses strands sixteen through twenty — the longest. When the fast group average is above the slow group average, momentum is bullish. When it is below, momentum is bearish. When the spread between the two groups falls below the twist threshold, the oscillator enters a Twist/Squeeze state.
This logic is independent of overbought and oversold levels and works reliably in all market conditions.
2.4 Momentum histogram
The histogram plots the distance between the fast and slow group averages near the zero midline. Wide bars indicate strong momentum separation — the trend has conviction. Narrow bars indicate the ribbon is compressing — momentum is fading or transitioning.
2.5 Ribbon slope
The slope line measures the rate of change of the fast group average over a configurable number of bars. A rising slope indicates momentum is accelerating into the trend. A falling slope indicates momentum is decelerating, a possible sign of exhaustion. A flat slope indicates consolidation or a transition that has not committed to a direction.
2.6 Divergence detection
The indicator compares recent price pivots against fast group average pivots over a configurable lookback window. A bullish divergence fires when price makes a lower low but the fast group average holds higher — hidden strength beneath the surface. A bearish divergence fires when price makes a higher high but the fast group average rolls over — hidden weakness. Both conditions trigger a background flash on the pane.
3. Presets
Three preset configurations are available. Selecting a preset overrides the core calculation parameters.

Twist — whether the ribbon is compressed below the twist threshold.
Zone — whether the ribbon is extended, compressed, or neutral relative to overbought/oversold levels.
Slope — momentum acceleration state: accel, decel, or flat.
Divergence — active bullish divergence, bearish divergence, or none.
Signal — last signal fired.
6. Alerts
Six alert conditions are available:
- Bullish: ribbon flips to bullish state.
- Bearish: ribbon flips to bearish state.
- Twist: ribbon enters Twist/Squeeze compression.
- Bullish divergence: price makes a lower low while momentum holds higher.
- Bearish divergence: price makes a higher high while momentum weakens.
- Any change: fires on any of the above transitions.
All alerts include exchange, ticker, and interval in the message.

8. How to use
8.1 Lower timeframes (1 minute to 15 minutes)
Use the fast preset. Monitor the ribbon for compression before expansion — Twist/Squeeze states often precede directional moves. A rising slope combined with bullish ribbon expansion confirms momentum is accelerating. A divergence forming while the ribbon is still in compression indicates a directional move is building before it appears in price.
Only take bullish setups when the ribbon is bullish or just exiting a Twist state with a rising slope and no active bearish divergence. Only take bearish setups with the reverse conditions.
8.2 Higher timeframes (1H, 4H, daily)
Use the default preset on 1H and 4H. Use the smooth preset on daily and weekly charts.
A wide, sustained ribbon fan on higher timeframes confirms momentum has conviction. Ribbon compression while price action narrows indicates trend exhaustion — consider reducing exposure and waiting for re-expansion. Divergence on daily charts carries significant weight and should be treated as a major reversal warning.
8.3 Dashboard reading guide
Slope accel + momentum bullish — trend strengthening, momentum building.
Slope decel + momentum bullish — trend weakening, watch for reversal.
Divergence bear + trend bullish — exit warning, confluence fading.
Twist yes + spread narrowing — breakout setup forming, wait for direction.
8.4 Standalone use
Momentum Pulse works as a standalone oscillator for any strategy or existing indicator setup. The ribbon provides directional momentum bias. The divergence detector flags hidden reversals before they appear in price. The slope line shows whether momentum is building or fading. The histogram confirms trend strength between fast and slow groups. No other indicator is required.
