Your averages are stacked and pointing the same way - but is that move widening, just holding, or already compressing?
Every MA ribbon on the shelf draws the same two or three lines and floods the gap with one colour at one opacity. So a ribbon that has pulled four ATR apart and is still separating looks exactly like a ribbon that has collapsed onto itself. The fill never tells you anything the lines didn't, which is why most people end up reading the lines and ignoring the shading entirely.
RibbonFlux makes the space between the lines carry the information. The gap is measured against ATR, ranked against its own recent history, and the shading answers to that: it deepens while the legs separate in agreement, and drains to a restrained neutral the moment they compress or lose their order. Same averages you already read - the space between them now states which of four conditions it is in.
WHY IT MATTERS
Separation and compression are the two things an MA ribbon actually knows, and the standard ribbon throws both away by drawing them identically. RibbonFlux spends its whole visual budget on that one distinction. It describes geometry already on your chart - never a prediction of what comes next, and never an instruction to act.
AT A GLANCE
Three independent averages - Lead, Base, and an optional Third. Each picks its own method, length (2-250) and price source, and a single enabled average still draws on its own.
Eight methods per slot - EMA, SMA, WMA, VWMA, HMA, RMA (Wilder), McGinley Dynamic, Fibonacci EMA Composite. Mixed freely: an HMA Lead over an EMA Base over an RMA Third is a valid setup.
Seven price sources per slot - Open, High, Low, Close, HL2, HLC3, OHLC4. Set per average rather than globally, and always on the chart timeframe.
The Flow Phase Engine - four conditions drive the fill's colour and depth: coherent expansion, stable flow, compression, mixed structure. Display only, and they never touch the MA values.
Each leg measured separately - Lead/Base and Base/Third are scored independently, so one fill can be compressing while the other expands. A single-opacity ribbon cannot show that.
Twelve palettes - Ocean, Indigo, Ember, Mono, Forest, Gold, Violet, Orderflow, Midnight, Copper, Arctic, Carbon. Or set Line color mode to Custom for a fixed colour per average, independent of the flow.
Line width and line style - 1 to 4 pixels, and Solid, Stepped, Dotted or Crosses. Applied to every core line and both halo tiers together, so the whole system thins or thickens as one.
Optional flow candles - bodies, wicks and borders take the relationship colour. Off by default, and under Adaptive dynamics they turn neutral during compression along with the ribbon.
Deliberately quiet - seven plots, two fills, one optional candle overlay. No alerts, no arrows, no dashboard, no labels, no boxes, no trendlines, nothing else drawn.
THE FOUR FLOW PHASES
Each leg of the ribbon is classified on every bar, and its own fill responds. Nothing here produces an event, and no phase ranks, scores or grades the market.
Coherent expansion - the enabled averages are in order, sloping the same way, and that leg is widening. Deepest shading: the phase factor is 1.00.
Stable flow - in order and sloping together, but the leg is not widening. Held back at 0.75.
Compression - the leg's ATR-normalized spacing sits in the bottom fifth of its own last 100 bars. Restrained neutral colour, and a phase factor of 0.00, which leaves depth at its 0.35 floor.
Mixed structure - the ordering or the slope agreement has broken. Restrained neutral colour, minimal shading at 0.25.
Compression uses a deadband, not a single threshold: a leg enters compression at a percent rank of 20 or below and only leaves it at 30 or above, so a leg hovering near one number does not flicker between two appearances. Before 100 bars of history exist, no leg is classified as compressed.
THE MECHANICS, STATED PLAINLY
ATR spacing = abs(faster average - slower average) / max(ATR(14), one tick)
leg depth = 0.35 + 0.65 x clamp(ATR spacing, 0, 1) x phase factor, then EMA-smoothed over the Flow response length
compression: enter at percent rank <= 20 over 100 bars, leave at >= 30
ordered: Lead > Base (> Third), or Lead < Base (< Third)
Flow response sets one number used three ways - the slope lookback, the expansion lookback, and the smoothing length: Quick is 2 bars, Balanced 3, Smooth 5. Setting Ribbon dynamics to Fixed bypasses the engine and holds each fill at the opacity you selected.
HOW IT DIFFERS FROM A STANDARD MA RIBBON
The fill is measured, not decorative - opacity is a function of ATR-normalized spacing and phase, recomputed every bar. A conventional ribbon fills the gap at a constant tone however wide or narrow it is.
Both legs are scored on their own terms - the Lead/Base fill and the Base/Third fill can disagree, so compression in the inner leg does not mute the outer one, or the reverse.
Compression is relative to the instrument, and sticky - a percent rank of its own history with a 20/30 deadband, not a fixed price or tick distance. It travels across symbols and timeframes without retuning.
Two methods a ribbon rarely offers - McGinley Dynamic and a Fibonacci EMA Composite. The composite is the equal-weight mean of five EMAs at Fibonacci-scaled periods; McGinley scales its own step by the fourth power of the price ratio.
The arithmetic ships with an independent open-source reference implementation - every documented formula is reproducible rather than asserted. A trust signal, not the pitch: what you are here for is the ribbon, not the tests.
THE VISUALS
Lead and Base - a crisp core line plus two restrained halo tiers each. At the default width of 2 the Lead halos are 6 and 4 pixels and the Base halos 5 and 3; Line width scales all of it together.
Glow - Off, Soft, Balanced, Rich, with opacity following Lead/Base spacing independently of the ribbon. So the lines themselves brighten as the pair separates, with a floor so they never vanish.
Ribbon shading - Off, Soft, Balanced, Rich sets the maximum depth the Flow Phases then modulate. Off removes both fills and leaves the lines.
A valid Third MA - one crisp line plus its own Base-to-Third shade. It also joins the ordering and slope tests, so enabling it makes coherence a three-line condition.
Line style - Stepped holds each value until the next bar. Dotted and Crosses place one mark per bar, so spacing follows bar width and opens up as you zoom in. Pine's plot() has no stroked dotted or dashed line, and this script uses no drawing objects to fake one.
Layering - the lines and fills draw in front of the candles, not behind them. Deliberate, so the optional flow candles can colour wicks and borders as well as bodies; if it reads heavy, Line width 1 or Glow Soft thins it.
HOW TO USE IT
Start with the defaults - Close EMA 9 over Close EMA 21, Ocean, Balanced glow and shading, Adaptive dynamics. Chosen for readability, not tuned as trading parameters.
Enable the Third MA for slower context - it defaults to Close EMA 50. Ordering then requires all three in sequence, a stricter condition than two.
Reach for Flow response first - Quick if the shading feels sluggish, Smooth if it feels twitchy. It is the one control that changes how fast the appearance reacts.
Set Ribbon dynamics to Fixed to switch the engine off - a plain constant-opacity ribbon, for comparing against what you ran before. Everything else, from palette to custom colours to width, style, glow and candle colouring, is taste: set it once and leave it.
WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO
It issues no alerts and has no alert conditions at all. It draws no arrows, entries, retests, setup zones, targets or labels, keeps no dashboard or readout, and ranks, scores and grades nothing. It makes no accuracy, reliability, profitability, probability or future-result claim of any kind. Moving averages are lagging transformations of price that has already printed: visible separation, alignment or colour establishes neither future direction nor the quality of any trade. DATA, TIMEFRAMES, AND WHAT TO CHECK YOURSELF
Everything is computed on your chart's own timeframe and data - there are no higher-timeframe requests anywhere in the source, so there is no lookahead argument to disclose and no second feed to reconcile against your chart.
Any MA moves while its bar is still forming , and two parts of this script also carry state from bar to bar: the McGinley recursion and the compression deadband. That describes the mechanism. Confirm it with the bar-replay tool on your own symbol and timeframe before relying on it - a description of mechanism is not that check, and nothing here claims to be.
The averages read chart OHLC - on Heikin Ashi, Renko, Range or similar they average those synthetic values, not traded prices. Use standard time-based candles if you want the averages to describe real prices.
VWMA needs usable volume, and the Fibonacci EMA Composite needs a length of 8 or more - each is simply unavailable otherwise. A selected calculation that cannot be produced stays unavailable: the script never silently substitutes another method.
McGinley seeds from an SMA of its own length, then advances by previous + (source - previous) / (0.6 x length x ratio^4). If its source or recurrence goes invalid the line goes unavailable and reseeds only after the next contiguous valid window.
Identical Lead and Base settings leave nothing to read - both lines still draw, but the ribbon and flow candles switch off and the lines fall back to neutral. A Third duplicating Lead or Base likewise draws its line while taking no shade and no phase depth.
ORIGINALITY AND CREDIT
Ribbon indicators are old ground; what is new here is that the fill is a measurement rather than a decoration - ATR-normalized leg spacing, a relative compression rank with hysteresis, and per-leg depth, all resolved into colour and opacity and nothing else. The engine is deliberately confined to display, and the surface is deliberately small.

Volatility Trail should be interpreted as a ratcheting trend system with radiating conviction geometry and multi-mode candle intensity scoring:
Bullish Trend State (Green) : Active when the trail has ratcheted below price and price has not closed below it, with the gradient cloud radiating upward from the trail toward the current bar.
Bearish Trend State (Red) : Active when the trail has ratcheted above price and price has not closed above it, with the gradient cloud radiating downward from the trail toward the current bar.

Trail flips too frequently : Increase ATR Factor to widen the distance between the Hull baseline and the trail boundary, requiring more significant price displacement before a flip is registered.
Trail flips too slowly : Decrease ATR Factor toward 0.5 for a tighter trail that responds faster to directional changes, or decrease Hull Length for a more reactive baseline.

Retest diamonds not firing : The retest zone is sized as a fraction of ATR multiplied by the ATR Factor. On instruments with very consistent trail distance this zone may be narrow. Increasing ATR Factor slightly widens the retest detection zone relative to the trail boundary.
Adjustments should be incremental and evaluated across multiple session types rather than isolated market conditions.

The Hull Moving Average — Why It Matters
The Hull Moving Average (HMA) was designed to reduce lag while maintaining smoothness. The calculation uses weighted moving averages at half-length and full-length, doubles the half-length result, subtracts the full-length result (creating a de-lagged series), then applies a final WMA at the square root of the length:
WMA(2 * WMA(src, n/2) - WMA(src, n), sqrt(n))
This produces a moving average that reacts significantly faster to price changes than a standard EMA or SMA of the same length, while filtering micro-noise through the final WMA pass. The result is a responsive midline that rarely produces whipsaws in trending markets.

Rather than relying on the built-in ta.dmi(), Kinetic Hull Matrix implements its own ADX from first principles:
1. Positive directional movement (plusDM) = max(high - high , 0) when high-to-high exceeds low-to-low
2. Negative directional movement (minusDM) = max(low - low, 0) when low-to-low exceeds high-to-high
3. Both are smoothed via ta.rma() over the ADX length, then divided by the RMA of true range to produce +DI and -DI
4. The directional index DX = abs(+DI - -DI) / (+DI + -DI) * 100, finally smoothed via ta.rma() to produce ADX
This gives a transparent, auditable ADX implementation. Values above 25 indicate a trending regime; below 25 indicates ranging conditions. The dashboard and scoring system both use this value.
Composite Signal Score (0–100)
A retest signal qualifies only when close price enters the inner cloud (touches upper cloud from above in a downtrend or lower cloud from below in an uptrend) while the candle closes back in the trend direction. The resulting signal is then scored:
- Proximity score (up to 50): How deeply price penetrated into the cloud. Deeper retests score higher.
- Volume score (up to 25): Current volume relative to its 20-bar SMA. Higher participation scores higher.
- RSI score (up to 15): RSI directional headroom — long signals score better when RSI has room below 55, short signals when RSI has room above 45.
- ADX score (up to 10): Raw ADX value × 0.4, capped at 10. Strong trends produce higher-quality retests.

S/R Line Stamping
Each confirmed retest signal stamps a horizontal dotted line at the close price, extending 60 bars forward. These lines serve as dynamic support (for bull retests) and resistance (for bear retests). Lines are automatically invalidated and deleted if price closes through them by more than 0.5 ATR — the indicator only keeps lines that have not been structurally broken.

How to Use
1. Apply to a liquid trending instrument. Allow warmup (roughly 3× Hull Length bars).
2. Identify the trend from cloud colour: teal fills = uptrend, red fills = downtrend.
3. Wait for price to dip into the inner cloud during an uptrend (or spike into it during a downtrend) and close back in the trend direction.
4. Check the score label — prefer grade 55+ (B or higher). Crosscheck with the MTF table: 4+ of 5 timeframes aligned significantly improves reliability.
5. The stamped S/R line from the retest level serves as a reference for re-entry if price pulls back again.
Non-Repainting Design
All retest signals are gated by barstate.isconfirmed. MTF data uses lookahead_off. S/R line management runs only on confirmed bars. No visual element shifts position after the bar closes.
Limitations
- In ranging, choppy markets, the cloud direction changes frequently and retest signals may have low predictive value. The ADX score component partially mitigates this, but consider increasing the minimum score threshold in low-trend environments.
- S/R lines accumulate during active trend periods. The max line count setting prevents chart clutter.
- MTF trend data requires request.security() calls per timeframe. On lower timeframes with very high bar counts, this may slightly affect indicator load time.

Why this indicator is different?
Most signal indicators work the same way. One condition triggers. One signal fires. The trader either takes it or does not.
The problem is that a single condition — a crossover, a level break, a momentum read — is almost never enough to define a genuinely high-quality trade. Markets are too complex and too noisy for that.
Conflux Engine works differently.
It does not fire on one condition. It requires multiple independent market forces to align simultaneously before a signal appears. Structure has to agree. Volume has to confirm. Momentum has to support. Volatility has to be in the right zone. Session positioning has to be favorable. And optionally, the higher timeframe trend and the ribbon have to be aligned too.
Only when enough of these forces agree — and agree clearly — does the indicator produce a signal.
This is what confluence means in practice. Not one thing being right. Multiple independent things being right at the same time.
The result is fewer signals. But the signals that do appear carry more weight than anything a single-condition system can produce.

1. Overview
Conflux Engine is a scoring-based signal indicator for traders who want structured, high-conviction entries rather than frequent, noisy ones.
Six independent pillars evaluate the market continuously. Each pillar scores independently. The scores combine into a total out of 100. When the total exceeds the signal threshold — and the dominant direction leads the opposite direction by a minimum gap — a signal fires.
Additional hard gates can be enabled: an ADX noise filter to block signals during choppy markets, a VWMA filter to ensure macro trend alignment, a Supertrend filter for dynamic trend confirmation, and an Ultra Ribbon filter using 15 Hull Moving Averages for the fastest momentum read.
The result is an indicator that is selective by design. It is not built to fire constantly. It is built to fire well.
2. The six pillars
2.1 Structure
Evaluates market structure using swing pivot highs and lows. A higher high combined with a higher low defines a bullish structure. A lower high combined with a lower low defines a bearish structure.
This pillar answers the most fundamental question in trading: is the market making progress in a direction, or is it deteriorating?
Weight: up to 16 points.
2.2 Volume
Uses OBV slope via linear regression to determine whether volume is accumulating in the direction of price or diverging from it.
Rising OBV slope on a bullish signal means participation supports the move. Falling OBV slope on a bullish signal is a warning. This pillar separates moves with institutional backing from moves without it.
Weight: up to 16 points.
2.3 Momentum
Evaluates three independent momentum reads: KAMA position (a Kaufman adaptive moving average that adjusts its speed to market conditions), RSI relative to the 50 midline with slope direction, and Williams %R for price positioning within the recent range.
Two of three aligned scores partial points. All three aligned scores full points.
Weight: up to 16 points.
2.4 Liquidity
Detects sweep events — moments where price wicks beyond a recent swing high or low and closes back inside. These events mark liquidity grabs and often precede directional moves.
A confirmed bull sweep sets up a long bias context. A confirmed bear sweep sets up a short bias context. The context remains active for a configurable number of bars, decaying over time.
Weight: up to 16 points.
2.5 Volatility
Measures ATR relative to its own moving average to identify the volatility sweet spot. Signals during dead, flat markets carry less meaning. Signals during chaotically explosive moves are harder to execute cleanly. This pillar rewards the in-between: active, directional, manageable volatility.
Weight: up to 16 points.
2.6 Session
Evaluates price positioning within the current day's developing range. Price in the lower portion of the range (discount) favors long bias. Price in the upper portion (premium) favors short bias.
This pillar can be toggled independently from the session time filter — you can use session scoring without restricting signals to specific hours, or vice versa.
Weight: up to 20 points.
3. Hard gates
Beyond the six scoring pillars, Conflux Engine includes four optional hard gates. These do not add points. They block signals entirely when their condition is not met.
3.1 ADX noise filter
Blocks signals when ADX is below a configurable threshold. ADX measures trend strength. A low ADX means the market is ranging and directionless — exactly the environment where momentum signals fail most often. Default threshold: 35. Adjustable up to 100 for maximum selectivity.
3.2 VWMA filter
Price must be above the Volume Weighted Moving Average for long signals, and below it for short signals. The VWMA is slower than a standard EMA and reflects the average price weighted by volume — a more meaningful macro reference than a simple average. Default length: 200.
3.3 Supertrend filter
The Supertrend must confirm the signal direction. This is a dynamic trend line based on ATR bands that flips cleanly between bull and bear states. It acts as an additional structural confirmation that the trend environment supports the entry.
3.4 Ultra Ribbon filter
The fastest gate. Built from 15 Hull Moving Averages spanning a range of lengths. When the fastest HMA is above the slowest HMA, the ribbon is bullish. When below, bearish. Because Hull MAs minimize lag, this gate reacts to trend changes earlier than most moving average systems.
The ribbon also serves as a trailing stop option in the backtest — the slowest HMA tracks trend without being too reactive.
4. Signal scoring
Every bar, both a bullish and bearish score are computed from the six pillars. The scores are added together.
A signal fires when:
- The dominant score meets or exceeds the signal threshold (default 70)
- The dominant score exceeds the opposite score by at least the directional lead (default 20)
- All enabled hard gates are cleared
This two-condition check — threshold plus gap — prevents marginal signals from appearing when the market is ambiguous. Both bull and bear can score reasonably high during mixed conditions. The gap requirement ensures the dominant direction is meaningfully ahead.
Pillar weights are individually adjustable. The system allows traders to prioritize the factors most relevant to their trading style and instrument.
The Extreme Threshold (default 90) flags signals where the confluence score is exceptionally high. These are the highest-conviction setups in the system.
5. The Ultra Ribbon
The Ultra Ribbon is a 15-layer Hull Moving Average ribbon that sits on the chart as both a visual trend tool and a momentum gate. Three themes are available:
Classic — green and red. Clear, functional, no ambiguity.
Phantom — cyan and pink with purple exhaustion. A darker, stylized read of the same data. (the default)
Custom — full color control for bull, bear, and exhaustion states.
The ribbon color adapts dynamically. When the spread between the fastest and slowest HMA is wide relative to its historical average, the ribbon fades toward the exhaustion color — a visual signal that the trend may be overextended. When the spread is moderate, the ribbon shows its full trend color.
Candle coloring follows the ribbon's bull/bear state continuously, giving an immediate read of trend direction on every bar.
The dashboard accent color and signal indicators follow the active theme, giving the entire indicator a unified visual identity across chart and panel.
6. Multi-timeframe filter
When enabled, the MTF filter evaluates the trend on a higher timeframe using a 50-period EMA. If the higher timeframe trend agrees with the signal direction, a weight bonus is added to the total score. If it disagrees, no bonus is added — but the signal is not blocked unless the score falls below threshold as a result.
This behavior is intentional. The HTF filter adds weight to aligned signals without making every counter-trend setup impossible. It rewards confluence with the bigger picture without enforcing hard alignment.
Default timeframe: 240 (4-hour).
Default weight bonus: 20 points.
7. Backtest and performance tracking
Confluence Engine includes a built-in performance tracker that logs every signal, applies configurable stop and target multipliers based on the current regime, and tracks wins, losses, and win rate across the visible history.
Stop loss modes:
- ATR — a fixed multiple of ATR from the entry price. Simple and consistent.
- Pivot — stop placed at the most recent swing low (for longs) or swing high (for shorts). Respects structure.
- Supertrend — stop placed at the dynamic Supertrend level at the time of entry. Tighter and adaptive.
- Trailing (h15) — stop follows the slowest HMA of the Ultra Ribbon. Trends with the market and gives winners more room.
Target multipliers are adjustable for each regime: Scalp, Intraday, and Swing. The regime is determined by the current ADX value.
Recent log shows the last three trade results in R multiples. This gives a quick read on recent system performance without requiring a separate journaling tool.
Note: the backtest uses bar close logic and approximated fill prices. It is a directional performance reference, not a precise simulation. Session filtering does not retroactively apply to historical trades — enabling session filtering after a test period will affect forward signals but not past performance data.

The dashboard updates on every bar and shows:
- Header: indicator name and current timeframe
- Pillar rows 1–6: score per pillar, colored by direction

10. How to use
10.1 Initial setup
1. Load the indicator on your preferred chart and timeframe.
2. Select a ribbon theme that matches your visual preference.
3. Set the signal threshold based on your desired selectivity. Start at 70.
4. Set the directional lead. 15–20 is a balanced starting point.
5. Enable the hard gates relevant to your style. For intraday trading, ADX + Supertrend is a strong combination. For swing trading, VWMA + MTF adds macro context.
6. Configure the session scoring if you trade specific sessions. NY traders: set session to 1330–2000 UTC (or your local equivalent).
7. Set your backtest start year and stop mode preference.
10.2 Reading a signal
When a signal appears:
- Check the dashboard. Which pillars are active? A signal with Structure + Volume + Momentum all scoring is stronger than one carried primarily by Session and Volatility.
- Check the score. A signal at 72 with a 20-point gap is valid but tight. A signal at 88 with a 30-point gap is a high-conviction setup.
- Check the ribbon. Is it cleanly bullish or bearish? Is it near exhaustion color? Signals during ribbon exhaustion carry more risk.
- Check the hard gates. They cleared — but were they close? A signal that barely cleared ADX 35 is different from one with ADX at 55.
10.3 Managing entries
Confluence Engine does not tell you the exact entry price. It tells you when conditions align. Your entry technique — pullback, breakout, limit at structure — remains your decision.
Use the stop mode that fits your trade: ATR for consistency, Pivot for structure-respect, Supertrend for dynamic adaptation, Trailing h15 for trend trades you want to hold.
10.4 Interpreting win rate
The built-in win rate is a useful reference, not a guarantee of future performance. A 65% win rate over 50 signals on a specific asset and timeframe tells you the system has been profitable in that environment. It does not guarantee the next signal wins.
Win rate should always be evaluated alongside average RR. A 60% win rate at 2R average beats a 70% win rate at 0.8R average. Use the recent log and the trade lines together to assess both dimensions.
10.5 Optimizing settings
If you see too many signals: raise the threshold, raise the directional lead, raise the ADX minimum, or enable additional hard gates.
If you see too few signals: lower the threshold slightly, reduce the directional lead, or disable one or two hard gates.
Do not optimize purely for win rate without considering signal frequency. A system that fires once per week at 80% win rate is different in practice from one that fires daily at 65%. Both can be profitable. Choose what fits your trading style.
11. Timeframe guide
1m–5m — Ultra Ribbon filter on, ADX threshold 30–40, Supertrend on, session scoring on. Focus on fast momentum signals during active sessions.
15m–30m — Full filter stack recommended. Threshold 70–75. Strong balance of frequency and quality.
1H–4H — VWMA and MTF filter add significant value. Threshold 75–80. Fewer signals, higher conviction.
Daily — Disable session scoring. Enable VWMA and MTF only. Use as swing context, not scalp tool.

This indicator solves the biggest problem with MTF alerts: false signals. You can choose one of two modes:

2. **Confirmed mode** — checks HTF close vs HTF MA. Signals only on the higher-TF bar close; fewer false starts, no intrabar repainting on that TF.
