WHAT THE LEVELS ARE
Each level is a confirmed pivot high or low: a bar whose extreme is not
exceeded by the N bars on either side of it. Nothing more. The title of
this publication calls them institutional, which overstates the case.
What can be said is narrower and still useful: traders place stops
beyond recent extremes, those stops cluster, and clusters attract price.
The indicator marks where the clusters plausibly sit. It does not see
order flow, and no indicator on this platform can.
BSL marks pivot highs, where stops from short positions accumulate.
SSL marks pivot lows, where stops from long positions accumulate.
TIMEFRAME GRID
Levels are read from a fixed 1H, 4H and 1D grid, with pivot strength
configurable per timeframe.
A timeframe is evaluated only when the chart resolution is equal to or
finer than it. On a 4H chart the 1H layer is switched off rather than
approximated, because a request for 1H data from a 4H chart returns one
value per 4H bar and most 1H pivots are never seen. The previous version
silently substituted chart-timeframe pivots and labelled them 1H, which
made the grid look constant while its contents changed with every
resolution switch. A note in the corner now states which layers are live.
CONFLUENCE
Two levels closer together than the merge tolerance, expressed as a
multiple of ATR(14), are treated as one. Same direction merges into a
single zone carrying both tags. Opposite directions form a combo zone,
which marks a price where stops sit on both sides.
A merge only counts as confluence when the incoming timeframe is not
already on the level. The previous version registered a level against
itself on every bar and flagged almost everything as confluent, which
made the feature meaningless.
SWEEP AND BREAK
Two different things end a level, and the previous version only handled
one of them.
A sweep is a pierce followed by a close back on the original side. Stops
were taken and the level held. This is the event worth an alert.
A break is a close beyond the level. It was accepted rather than
defended and carries no further meaning. It is now cleared silently.
Without this, levels the market had long left behind stayed on the chart
and crowded out current ones.
VOLUME POINT OF CONTROL
Volume from each bar in the lookback window is spread evenly across that
bar's high-low range and binned. The bin holding the most volume is
drawn as the POC. This approximates a volume profile without tick data,
so it is an estimate, not a measured distribution. It recalculates on
the last bar and therefore moves as new bars arrive.
LIMITS
Pivots are confirmed N bars after they print, so a level appears with
that delay by construction. Stop clustering is a tendency, not a rule,
and plenty of levels are crossed without reaction. The indicator
produces no directional signal and no entry.
CHANGES IN THIS UPDATE
- Detection triggers once per pivot instead of on every bar.
- Timeframes coarser than the chart are disabled, not approximated.
- Confluence only counts genuinely new timeframes.
- Levels broken by a close are cleared.
- Zones are anchored at the pivot bar rather than the detection bar.
- Cleanup handles multi-timeframe tags correctly.
- Three data requests instead of six.
- Default zone height raised so zones render as bands.
